01What it does

GitHub's official connector lets the assistant read code, open and triage issues and pull requests, and search across your repositories and organizations, all from the chat. It also powers the GitHub connector in ChatGPT Deep Research, which returns cited reports about your actual codebase and engineering docs. Also available as a connector for Perplexity. Also available as a connected app for Gemini. Also available as a connector for Grok.

02How to connect

Claude

In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector, paste the server address, and sign in to your GitHub account when prompted.

ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Connected apps, find GitHub, authorize it, and choose the repositories Deep Research may read.

Perplexity

In Perplexity, open Computer > Connectors, click Enable next to GitHub, and authenticate via OAuth. For the Agent API: add GitHub on your Project's connectors page in the API Console, copy the connector ID (connector_github), and reference it as type 'connector' in requests; pair with the Sandbox tool to enable git/gh CLI access.

Gemini

On a computer, open the Gemini web app, attach a GitHub repository to your prompt, and ask questions about the code. Link your GitHub account to your Google Account for private repositories. Requires age 18+ and Keep Activity on.

Grok

1. Go to grok.com/connectors. 2. Click New Connector and select GitHub. 3. Complete the OAuth sign-in. Catalog connector endpoint: https://api.githubcopilot.com/mcp/x/all
